The Municipality of Concepcion will once again hold its 9th Tampisaw Festival on April 24 - 25, 2008 to be held at Pan de Azucar Island, Barangay Tambaliza, Concepcion, Iloilo with the Theme: “Lakbay para sa Kalikasan, Lakay para sa Buhay at Kinabukasan. The 2-day festivities as in the past features: environment-friendly activities, traditional/folk games and local practices, beach mass dance, water sports and beauty search.

Tampisaw Festival is the Local Government Unit’s direct answer to the global call as embodied in the Earth Summit in Rio De Jainero a decade ago.  The festival is fitted to celebrate such an activity, as the town hosts a fragile marine and land ecosystem such as the Mt. Pan De Azucar Sea and Landscape.  It also serve as an avenue to showcase, jumpstart and drum-up support for all government and private sector’s  environment related/friendly initiatives, programs & projects implemented in our town.

Tampisaw was coined by Atty. Helen Camarista, Assistant Regional Director of the Department of Tourism VI in a festival workshop held 8 years ago.  Tampisaw is a Hiligaynon term which means “ To playfully wade or playfully frolic in the water”.  It is a celebration of water, which fittingly depict the life and culture of Concepcion – a town highly dependent on fishing as its main industry.  Originally, the festival is celebrated within the weeks of April 24 – the earth day worldwide.
